Kadhalikka Neram Illai - A Review

It was after a couple of my friends recommended this program for me to watch that I decided to watch an episode of Kadhalikka Neram Illai, a primetime television serial in Vijay TV. Ram and Gokul were very much excited about this television series and Ram went to the extent of uploading all of the female protoganist’s stills in his orkut album!

Coming to the episodes, they usually start with a small slideshow of glimpses of Singapore (much similar to American Sitcoms and a first in Indian television)

The scene moves to the apartment of the two lead characters Shakthi(Prajin) and Divya(Chandra Lakshmanan); point to be noted is that the concept of the series is live-in relationships - a bold venture for the conservative South Indian family audience. The first part of the episode is used to show the life of the main characters in their apartment.

Commercial break is announced then.

In the he second part of the episode, a small(read silly) misunderstanding occurs between Shakthi and Divya(who is the one usually misunderstanding the other) occurs. After this, Divya goes to her friend for council and Shakthi goes to his advisor, Sri(Srinath) who tries to provide some comic relief, which soon becomes a boring repitition - he should vary his style of comedy a bit more which as of now is spent miming famous dialogues from Tamil movies.

The next commercial break is announced.

The last part shows how they both understand each other (usually with Divya apologsing to Shakthi)

Phew!

All the above in thirty minutes!

And talking about the commercial breaks, the worst advertisements for big names are telecast.

The title song though is super cool (composed by Vijay Antony and sung by his wife) The background music also is great.

Prajin looks good with ‘just got up from bed’ looks throughout the series with a one week old stub. Chandra needs to shed a few kilos. And both of them definitely need to take some acting lessons!

The entire thing could be a bit fast. I had to gather much patience to watch the entire episode and the plot was too predictable.

Also, the telecom operators in Singapore should learn a few things on network coverage from our own BSNL and Reliance! :P Mera Bharat Mahaan! :)
Anyway, a totally new venture from the makers in the midst of tried and tested method of producing soaps which give more work for the tear glands than anything else.
